Meet the Team: Jazmin Ingram

Jazmin Ingram joins the Tigermoth Creative team as a marketing intern.

You’re from D.C. What attracted you to Bennett College and the Greensboro area?

What attracted me to Bennett College was the size. I like how I can receive that one-on-one attention from my professors if I need it. The sisterhood there is special as well. You will find at least one person who will become your lifelong friend. What attracted me to the Greensboro area was the distance from here to D.C. I wanted to go somewhere far, but not too far.

What do you miss most about home?

I have family in the North Carolina area, but not many so I really miss being around my family and loved ones. I also miss the food. The food is amaaazing. There are so many places in D.C. that have great food and one of my personal favorites is this restaurant called Cheddars because I love burgers.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life and how did they help shape you to the woman you are today?

My biggest inspiration would be myself. Not in a self-centered way, but I often get inspired from myself. I help shape myself by knowing exactly what needs to get done and by doing it. This drive came from my mother and father pushing me to do my absolute best and being there when I needed help. I can also say that I do not have one particular person who inspires me because I get inspired by a lot of people daily.

Who’s on your playlist right now?

Hmm, I have a little bit of everything. Jhene Aiko, Migos, Drake, Dom Kennedy, Daniel Caesar, Chris Brown, Marsha Ambrosius, Thundercat, Floetry, etc.

I’m an older white guy who grew up on old school rap like Snoop Dogg, Outkast and Tupac. I’m not in tune with your generation’s rap/hip hop, but I know a few of those artists you just mentioned fit into those genres. If you had one or two artists to recommend who would they be? Also, which song would you choose and why?

I would choose GoldLink “Crew” and Daniel Caesar “Hold Me Down.” I chose GoldLink because he’s from Washington, D.C. like me and I like the song as well. It was the summer anthem for 2017. I chose Daniel Caesar because he is one of my favorite male R&B singers who doesn’t get enough recognition.

What are three foods you can’t live without?

Burgers, alfredo and chocolate.

What is something about you most people who know you would be surprised to find out?

I was a cheerleader for the Redskins during their pre-season game when I was 10/11 years old. Another thing (which is kind of weird), is that when people whisper, it makes me sleepy.

Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my mother. She is my role model because she is always there when I need her. Also, growing up with two other siblings (before my baby sisters were born) she was a single parent. So, she did everything she could to make sure me, my older brother and younger sister had everything that we wanted and needed.

Favorite movie and why.

Well, I have two. The first one is called Love Jones. This is one of my favorite movies because I like the chemistry that each actor/actress has towards each other. My second favorite movie is called I Am Sam. I like this movie because it sheds light on mentally-challenged parents.

Who do you subscribe to on YouTube?

Jhene Aiko, Daniel Caesar, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Sabrina Claudio.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I’ve literally been avoiding this question — lol. Currently, my plans after graduation are to continue working at my current job while doing freelance work. I plan to continue doing some community service in higher education and with recreational centers like the Boys and Girls Club.

What’s the best thing about Bennett?

The best thing about Bennett College is the support that you receive from your professors and the networking opportunities.

What is your ultimate dream? If you could make an impact doing anything, what would it be?

My ultimate dream is to become financially free. I want to be able to have enough money to help and give back to my community. I plan to give back to my community by dedicating my time to the youth and making sure that they stay on the correct path and to be a mentor for them.

What’s your favorite technology or app?

My earphones are something that I never leave my house without because I love listening to music. My favorite  app is Twitter. Twitter is hilarious especially when something is trending.  Whenever I want to laugh that is the app that I open first. Here are a couple of examples. Twitter can also be a place where you hear of things first — like the news. It is full of entertainment and that is the reason why it is my favorite.

You’re an aspiring videographer and have already produced a video called “Black Love at an HBCU” — tell us more.

I believe that this video has potential, but can also be a lot better. I like to see the outcome that I get after a lot of hard work and knowing that I put my all into editing it. I wanted to look at what relationships are like for African Americans and possibly change stereotypes surrounding black relationships by creating a way for people to meet black couples.
